Laurie was raised in the family grocery business, Super Drive In Markets (known as SDI Markets) and learned the ropes both inside the stores as well as the office. After graduating from McGavock High School, she attended MTSU where she continued her passion for music while obtaining an education in accounting and continued to work in the corporate side of SDI. After SDI sold to a national convenience store chain, she spent the next 15 years of her accounting career in public accounting with KPMG Peat Marwick and Kraft CPAs. While at Kraft, she was instrumental in the development of Kraft Consulting, a subsidiary corporation, and became a certified dealer/installer for two high-end accounting software packages.
In 1996, she stepped out on her own, providing bookkeeping and tax services to individuals and small businesses as well as assisting in her family’s rental real estate business. In 2018, Laurie turned her hobby of crafting, repurposing furniture and home décor, and antiquing into a local retail shop, Mill Creek Mercantile. As a first step to slow down a bit, she sold the individual tax returns side of her accounting business to a long time employee but kept her corporate clients.
While raising her children, she was extremely involved in the McGavock High School band program, serving on the Board of Directors in the capacity of Treasurer and Band Booster President for 11 years. She has also served as the treasurer at her church and has served on the Board of Directors of Music City Legend Drum and Bugle Corps in the capacity of Treasurer, where she is a charter member. She also served on the Donelson Hills Neighborhood Association Board as Treasurer and President. Laurie has continued her passion for music by playing trumpet in her church orchestra, the Nashville Community Concert Band, and Music City Legend Drum and Bugle Corps. She is currently a member of the Two Rivers Community Orchestra. She is happily married to Scott and enjoys antiquing, crafting, and spending time with their 4 children
and 8 grandchildren.
