Dr. Berthena Nabaa-McKinney, affectionately known as Dr. B, is a transformational leader, former principal and educator who now serves as Vice Chair of the Metro Nashville Board of Education, representing District 4, which includes the Donelson, Hermitage, and Old Hickory communities. She chairs the Board’s Budget and Finance Committee, overseeing the district’s ~$1.4B operating budget, and previously chaired the Superintendent Evaluation Committee.
She is also the CEO of Nabaa Consulting, a national education consulting firm specializing in school improvement, turnaround, and leadership development for schools, school systems, and education organizations.
A graduate of L’Evate (formerly Leadership Donelson-Hermitage) Class of 2016, she led the Youth Leadership Program (YELL) from 2017–2022 and is a proud member of the Leadership Nashville Class of 2025.
Berthena has been married to her husband, Todd, for 33 years, and together they are the parents and guardians of six children—and one very loved cat, Monie.
